This week the Year 2 children enjoyed an immersive Victorian toys workshop. The children met Mary Poppins! She flew in on her umbrella to tell the children all about the different types of toys children in the Victorian era would have played with. The children used their learning from Science to identify the different materials the toys were made from before getting to play with them all. They loved putting on a Punch and Judy show! The children also had a Victorian playtime and had fun learning how to use hoops and sticks, marbles, chalks and accordions. The children had a go at sorting toys from the Victorian era and modern day and also made their own Victorian toy to enjoy at home.
Did you know we still play with many toys that children in the past played with? Children today still play with toy trains, wind up toys, teddy bears dolls and board games but many of these toys are made from plastic instead.
