Today in Year 2 we have celebrated the coronation of King Charles III by spending the day learning about his life, work, and role as monarch and leader of our country.
- We talked about the significance of King Charles’ Coronation, a historic event that has happened in our lifetime.
- We looked at the chronology of the life of King Charles and sequenced some key events on a timeline.
- We discussed what a monarch is and the qualities that a good leader should have.
- We learnt about the work that King Charles III has done to help wildlife, the environment, people, and the planet.
- We compared the coronations of Elizabeth II to King Charles III, writing about what was the same, similar, and different about them.
- We looked at the Crown Jewels and discussed what each symbolised and how they were used in the Coronation service.
- We made crowns from recyclable and natural materials to celebrate King Charles, our new ‘Green King’.
We joined the rest of the school at a special assembly in the afternoon, where we wore our crowns, shared what we had been learning and sang songs to celebrate our new monarch.
What a great day we have had celebrating the coronation together!
