Young Voices is the largest school choir organiser in the world and currently organises over 14 capacity concerts a year in the UK & Ireland’s leading Arenas. Each year over 2,500 schools, 90,000 children 6,000 teachers and 120,000 family and friends come together to enjoy music and celebrate singing.

This year 34 Year 2 pupils at Stannington Infant School together with pupils from Nook Lane Junior School took the opportunity to join Young Voices. After lots of hard work including early morning practises and lunchtime singing club, we attended Sheffield Arena on the 23rd January to take part, along with over 4,000 other children, to sing a variety of songs including:

Mr Blue Sky

Weather Medley

Lean on Me

Living on a Prayer

A Pop Medley

Folk Song Medley

Oh the Things You Can Think from Dr Seuss

Film Medley

African Sanctus (The Lord’s Prayer)

Hallelujah

Higher and Higher

Stacey Solomon joined the children to sing Son of a Preacher Man and also a track from her new album.

Many of the songs were choreographed and although it was a long day the children were still in good spirits and dancing at 9.00pm when the concert finished. The children (probably the youngest entertaining the audience at the Arena) were outstanding and many parents and relatives attended the Arena to watch them perform.

We have had a great response from parents and are looking forward to joining in with Young Voices next year.
