What a wonderful day we had – and luckily the weather held out for us! Both classes took part in a series of workshops learning about all the work that is carried out to make sure that our local Peak District National Park remains a place we can all visit and enjoy.
They learnt about the animals that we find in the Peak District, such as red deer, adders and lapwings, the way in which the landscape is developed and protected as well as how sheep are looked after and ‘labelled’ so that farmers know which ones belong to them! They also had the opportunity to meet real ‘Game Keepers’, who talked about how they ‘manage’ numbers of different animals so that predators such as mink do not destroy certain native species. We even met a real kestrel called Martha!
The highlight, however, was possibly the wonderful sheep dog and her pup – we all made a new friend!
