“A friendly, creative environment for learning together”
Eco Schools
Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life.
The Eco-Schools framework consists of seven elements:
1. Eco-Committee
2. Environmental Review
3. Action Plan
4. Involving the whole school and wider
community
5. Linking to the curriculum
6. Monitoring and evaluation
7. Eco-Code
The framework supports schools working on different environmental and sustainable topics. There are nine topics that you can choose to work on.
Nine topics:
1. Energy
2. Water
3. Biodiversity
4. School grounds
5. Healthy living
6. Transport
7. Litter
8. Waste
9. Global citizenship
As you know we have achieved Eco Schools status and the Green Flag Award. Eco Club meet regularly with Mrs Platts and Miss Travis to work on Green issues in school. This year they are working on
- biodiversity in the school garden by building new bug hotels and adding more bird feeders
- waste by encouraging more recyling in school
- litter by litter picking in and around the school grounds
- energy and water by showing our peers how to save energy and water
- transport by encouraging sustainable travelAs part of this work Eco Club have created a 5 minute walk zone around school. They would like families to park outside this zone and then walk to school.
The bees are very happy!
Mrs Grayson and Mrs Simpson have been very busy looking after our bees at school. We now have two hives and are waiting for a new queen to hatch. Fingers crossed for some honey soon!
Bee Inspection
The bees have passed the inspection with flying colours. They are all healthy and were very friendly. We have started to collect wax to make candles or handcream!
Searching for Queen Cells
The children in school have been to our apiary today searching for queen cells and signs of swarming. Our bees are really healthy and starting to make some honey!!
