This week is our whole school Art Week and the children in Year 1 have been learning about printing.
We have learnt to identify different ways that we can print and the different materials we can use too! We have loved experimenting with different printing styles. Our favourite was learning how to print using stamps and bubbles!
Our artist focus has been Utagawa Hiroshige and we have learnt that he was a famous Japanese artist in the 1700’s and is famous for his woodblock printing. We have talking about what we like and dislike about his prints. We are learning that it is good to have a different opinion from our friends!
We have then learnt how to draw a blossom flower in the style of Utagawa Hiroshige and then designed and carved our blossom into styrofoam. We have then printed these designs onto T-shirts. We will be selling these at our summer fair in June!
We have reflected on our learning today, just like an artist would do.
We have realised that:
“It was hard to carve the styrofoam but I kept on going!” – Freya
“I didn’t like how it snapped. I pushed it too hard.” – Jack
“I put too much pressure on the pencil.” – Iris
“Oh we needed more paint on the paper.” “Oh that’s not worked” “I need more paint now!” – James
“I needed to roll it more.” – Eva
“Wow look at that!! I can see all the petals. I must have pressed on enough.” – Jasmine
