Today in Year 1 we have had our coronation day to celebrate King Charles.
We have looked at the chronology of the life of King Charles and sequenced the main events that have happened in his life.
- We learnt that King Charles was born in 1948 at Buckingham Palace.
- We have learnt that King Charles is now the king because Queen Elizabeth died and King Charles was the next in line for the throne because he is the eldest son.
- We have learnt that King Charles was the first royal heir to go to a school.
- We have learnt that in 1971 King Charles went into the Royal Air Force and then joined the Navy. He learnt to fly a helicopter and an aeroplane.
- We have learnt that King Charles married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981 and then married Queen Camilla in 2005.
- We have learnt that King Charles has two sons – Prince William and Prince Harry.
- We have learnt that King Charles and Queen Elizabeth both had their coronations at Westminster Abbey.
We have had a delicious party lunch too!
In the afternoon we have made different crowns – some of us made crows filled with gems like the St Edwards crown and others have made sustainability crowns using leaves and flowers from the garden.
We have also decorated our classrooms and then decorated buns with Union Jack flags.
To finish our day we showcased what we learnt in a special assembly. What a fantastic day we have had celebrating our new king!
